Epitaph Poems

Bod: The child who was raised by the graveyard villiage. I choose this one because Bod was the character that was raised and taught things by the ghost and dead people. After Jack had killed his parents baby Bod was always taught thing by the graveyard. He was also giving the spell to be able to interact with the dead and alive. Throughout the book, he had gotten into a bit of trouble but the ghost was always there to redirect him and get him back. Therefore that's why he would get this epitaph poem. Silas: Who would know vampires are the new interpreters. I gave this to Silas because of the simple fact that Silas was the character in the book who was able to look human even though was a vampire. He was also the one to go get food for Bod and introduce him to the alive world; he was the gateway to "normal". He would also help with the education aspect and at all times the biggest concern was his safety.  Jack: The Jack of all trades is now has a whole nother meaning. I th...

Jazzy Journal- The Girl who Drank the Moon

Dear Kelly Barnhill,     The word sacrifice is such a powerful word and used through out you book "The Girl Who Drank the Moon". The word sacrifice can mean so much to so many people as we have differnet experience with it. The way you used sacrifice in the book it had a lot more to it then just a theme. First with the sacrifice of the baby is away that a mother would feel giving up a child for abortion. There is so many young adults that have gone through that experieence that I wonder if you wrote that knowing that people would have that connection. The second aspect I thought about was what sacrifices did you personally have to make to where you could put them into this story. Like was there a time where you had to give up a baby, and you knew how to take that sacrifice and turn it into a story. The thrid way I think you included it was becuase our life is a constant battle of sacrificing things that we want vs what we need. This word has so much behind it that we don...

The Series of Lauren as a Reader

As I reelect back on what kind of reader I was and currently am the one phase that comes to mind is hate, love relationship. There were many years that went by and I hated touching books and refused to read but then there was plenty of times I could not put the book down. The first time that I have memory of loving a book was when I was 6 and the only reason, I know about this is because I say a video about it. We were in the hospital waiting to see what was going to happen with my little sister. My aunt was my caregiver at that time as my parents needed to have full attention at the hospital. Well, I was very into my prince Disney book that I had brought it to the hospital. I would walk around and show other family members that were at the hospital with us. It even got to the point of me asking if they wanted me to tell them a story. I would retell the Cinderella story from what I would remember from my aunt reading it to me. Obviously, it wasn’t th...

Jazzy Reading Journal

Dear, Kelly Barnhill     After I have read the first 200 pages of your book called "The Girl Who Drank the Moon" I have few thoughts I wanted to share with you.   I do have to stay I really love the book so far and it has made me love your work as this is the first book I have read of yours.      First, I was thinking about was if you were to turn your book into a movie would you have it in color or in black and white? As I personally thought about this question I feel like having it in color would make your story come more alive. As I was reading the chapters I actually could see it happening and it was in color. For example when I read "She had simply grown black wings and proceeded to flap about the room" on page 63 I personally see a crow flapping around the room I teach. Having the color aspect would make it way more interesting as could have that sense of classroom and it would add that comical aspect to the storyline. I also can see the wh...
